Posted in: Research, Data, Open Science

The User Guide for the Instagram Data Access Pilot for Well-being Research is now available, and the pre-proposal submission portal is officially open. As you prepare your submissions, these resources will help guide you through the process and ensure you have all the information you need.

This pilot program, a collaboration between Meta and COS, supports academic researchers studying the connections between social media use and well-being. If your work aligns with this area of research, the pilot program offers a valuable opportunity to access Instagram data in a privacy-preserving way.

Key Resources You Need to Know

  • Request for Proposals (RFP)
The RFP provides detailed information on the scope of the pilot program, eligibility requirements, research focus areas, and the submission and review process. Be sure to review it thoroughly to understand what’s expected. You can access the RFP here.

  • User Guide
The User Guide helps you understand the types of Instagram data available for research and explains how to request and use the data. It will be an essential resource as you prepare your submission. You can access the User Guide here.

Important Deadlines & Submitting Early

The pre-proposal submission deadline is September 5, 2024. To maximize your chances of success, we encourage you to submit your proposal early. COS will review proposals for eligibility within 5 business days of submission. If your proposal is ineligible, you’ll have time to make any necessary adjustments before the final deadline. This early feedback option gives you a valuable opportunity to refine your proposal.

Next Steps

  • Review the RFP and User Guide: Make sure you're familiar with the data available, eligibility criteria, and submission process.
  • Submit Your Proposal Early: The submission portal is open now. Submitting early allows time for potential feedback and adjustments. Ensure your final proposal is completed by September 5, 2024.
