OSF Institutions helps research communities

Researchers who use OSF will spend more time doing research and less time moving their work between the various tools they use to find, produce, document, and share it.

Easy set up and sign on

OSF Institutions works with your institution’s Identity Provider (See if yours is available through eduGain) so that researchers need to remember fewer passwords to use all of their tools. A detailed guide on the SSO function is available on GitHub. A sign in guide for your users can be found in the OSF Help Guides.

Research data management

OSF is a free and open source project management tool that supports researchers throughout the project lifecycle.

  • As a collaboration tool, OSF helps research teams work on projects privately or make publicly accessible for broad dissemination.
  • As a workflow system, OSF enables connections to the many products researchers already use, streamlining their process and increasing efficiency.
  • Researchers can manage files, data, code, and protocols in one centralized location and easily build custom organization for their unique needs.
  • Soon content on OSF will support FAIR metadata for all files, which will even further enhance responsible preservation and discovery.

Track impact

It remains difficult to see the influence of cited and shared data, particularly outside of publications. OSF captures visit information to help measure how research data, code, and other materials are being visited.

Quick response for busy researchers

Your researchers, as part of an OSF Institutions membership, will also receive priority user support as they become acclimated to the new tools and practices.
